Praise for care home efforts – Telford Centre in Fort Augustus was visited by the Care Inspectorate and received a good report
A Fort Augustus care home has been given a good rating following an assessment by the Care Inspectorate.
Inspectors visited Telford Centre, in Abertarff Place, which is operated by NHS Highland, for an unannounced inspection.
They looked at two areas – supporting people’s wellbeing and the quality of care and support during the pandemic – and rated it as good for both.
According to the inspectorate’s report, people’s wellbeing was well supported and good progress had been made since the last inspection in July 2019.
The report added: “People’s physical and emotional needs were met to a good standard by a committed, kind and caring staff team.
“There were trusting relationships between staff and the people they supported.
“The culture of the staff team was to promote and support people’s independence, dignity, privacy and choice.
“The interactions between staff and individuals were kind, caring and encouraging.”
Inspectors have identified one area for improvement in supporting people’s wellbeing – that the manager must ensure mealtimes are well organised and enjoyable.
Regarding care and support during the pandemic the inspectors found that the home’s management of infection prevention and control was of a good standard.
They noted that there was a good supply of PPE.
Inspectors identified two areas for improvement.
Firstly, staff must support individuals to wash their hands before and after meals and at other appropriate times to help promote individuals’ health and wellbeing.
The second area for improvement was that the provider must develop a robust induction for new managers to help ensure services are well led and managed.
