Popular Inverness restaurant Jimmy Chung's shuts for good
A POPULAR restaurant unit in a prime location overlooking the River Ness has been left empty with the closure of Jimmy Chung’s Chinese buffet.
The first floor Bank Street restaurant with its views over the Ness had been popular with both locals and visitors to Inverness who enjoyed its all-you-can-eat choice of authentic Asian
cuisine.
One of a number of Jimmy Chung’s branches across Scotland, with others in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Dundee and Stirling, the Inverness restaurant is understood to have closed following the owner’s decision to retire, as well as the impact of being forced to close for long periods as a result of Covid.
Despite attempts to offer the restaurant as a going concern, the unit is now being marketed for rent.
Monica Lee-Macpherson, chairwoman of Scottish Highlands and Islands and Moray Chinese Association (SHIMCA), said the restaurant would be much missed as Jimmy Chung’s has hosted its Chinese New Year celebration banquet each year since 2009 before the pandemic forced its cancellation.
“It is really a big, big shame because they have supported us all these years,” she said.
She added that the association would now have to find an alternative Inverness venue for next year’s banquet, which follows the now well-established traditional lion dance parade along Inverness High Street and is attended by local civic leaders as well as members of the north Chinese community.
