Raigmore Hospital ward closed after outbreak of norovirus
A ward at Raigmore Hospital has been closed last week due to an outbreak of norovirus.
New patients are being kept out of Ward 7C while hospital staff deal with three cases of the illness which causes diarrhoea and vomiting and is extremely contagious.
Visiting is also limited, with staff considering admission on a case-by-case basis.
A spokesperson for NHS Highland said: “The Infection Prevention and Control Team are monitoring the situation and infection control measures are in place.
“The virus, which causes diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting, spreads in the air where someone has had diarrhoea or vomited and is extremely infectious. It is important that everyone plays their part in reducing outbreak risks.
“We would also ask all members of the public that if they have, or live with someone who has, symptoms of diarrhoea and/or vomiting they please refrain from visiting any hospital or care home setting until clear of symptoms for 48 hours.”
