Two railway bridge inspections spark temporary road closures in Inverness, Highland Council announces
RAILWAY bridge inspections are set to temporarily close two Inverness roads next week, Highland Council has announced.
A part of Harbour Road in Inverness will be closed overnight from 10pm on Monday until 6am on Tuesday. The closure affects the area around the railway bridge and extends for 300 metres from the junction with the Millburn roundabout.
The closure is required while Network Rail Scotland carries out inspections of the bridge. Motorists will be diverted via alternative routes during the closure.
Later in the week, the city's Brown Street will also be closed while inspectors check the Far North Line's railway bridge which cross that route. This closure will run from 9am until 5pm on Wednesday, and will affect the whole road from its junction with Anderson Street – a distance of roughly 140 metres.
A Highland Council spokesman said: "Brown Street is a cul-de-sac and there are no alternative routes available for the vehicular traffic which will be affected by this notice. Local access will be maintained, subject to it being safe to accommodate such vehicles.
"Access will be maintained for pedestrians, cyclists and emergency vehicles attending an emergency. Other vehicles requiring access may do so at the discretion and by the instructions of the contractor."
Meanwhile, Highland Council has also announced a third temporary road closure – this time unconnected to the railway network.
A section of MacColl Road and Comar Gardens, in Cannich, will be shut to traffic from 8am to 6pm on Monday while utility maintenance works are carried out.
Access will be maintained for pedestrians, cyclists and emergency vehicles. Other motorists requiring access may do so at the discretion and by the instructions of the contractor.
