Social media users were keen to share images of a lunar rainbow seen over the Inverness area last night.
Also known as a moonbow, experts suggest they occur less than 10 per cent as often as traditional rainbows.
Some sources state they occur when "light from the Moon illuminates falling water drops in the atmosphere".
RNLI Loch Ness was among those commenting on the occurrence: "Wet and windy for training tonight. We wonder what you find at the end of a moonbow."
