Re-elected Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey MP Drew Hendry says priorities are Brexit and benefits
Voters in the Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey constituency not only kept faith with Drew Hendry but doubled the SNP MP’s majority.
Following the snap general election he now takes his place as part of a wave of nationalist MPs sent to Westminster to represent 80 per cent of Scotland’s constituencies.
Mr Hendry has vowed not to rest on his laurels despite getting a total of 26,247 votes on a massive 70 per cent turnout.
“We will be steadfast in our commitment to ensuring Scottish people are given the choice over their future. I will also be picking back up the campaign to halt and fix Universal Credit with renewed vigour.
“The damage it has wrought on our communities, the corresponding increase in child poverty and the amount of families having to rely on food banks to get by is unforgivable and it needs to stop.”
One of biggest challenges for the SNP in Westminster will be to deliver a second referendum on independence with a Tory majority.
He said: “It would be a catastrophic failure of the UK democratic system if the clear mandate won by the SNP – with a larger vote share than the UK Tory result – was ignored. I will work to ensure that Boris Johnson and the Tories understand that if the Scotland is imprisoned in a union, with no say over our future, then that is no union at all.”
