Reopening of sinkhole road in Inverness city centre ‘on track’ for Friday?

Emergency repairs that have closed a busy Inverness city centre street to all traffic are on track for the road to reopen on Friday, it is understood.

Contractors have been busy repairing a sink hole and damaged sewer in Bridge Street after the road was forced to close at its junction with Church Street in the middle of last week.

Scottish Water explained that the time taken to undertake the repairs had been complicated by the number of utility lines under road in that area, as well as by the need for specific materials.

Speaking earlier this week, a spokesperson said: “This is a complex repair. We are doing everything we can to get machinery and materials in place to repair the sewer and then reinstate and reopen the road at the earliest possible opportunity.

Workers were busy on site again on Thursday, and it is understood that the timeframe for reopening the road remains on track.

Work to repair the sewer will also continue on the footpath after the road reopens.
