REVIEW: Singin’ in the Rain delights as Inverness Musical Theatre celebrates 100th anniversary
Inverness Musical Theatre celebrated its 100-year anniversary with a spectacular performance of its opening show of Singin’ in the Rain at Eden Court, last night.
Starting off with a video from performers past and present the amateur theatre group emphasised how important creativity is to the local community.
Having put on 102 shows to over 50,000 people in its 100 year history, it is certainly embedded firmly within the Highlands.
The performance of Singin’ in the Rain itself was one of colour, tip-top tap dancing and high notes.
In silent movies, Don Lockwood (Chris Tunks) and Lina Lamont (Serenity Harbor) are a hot item, but behind the scenes a different story unfolds!
When the ‘talkies’ take the silver screen by storm, Lina’s squeaky voice spells disaster for Monumental Pictures unless a talented young actress (Alison Ozog as Kathy Selden) steps in to save the day.
The high-energy and comical performance kept the packed-out audience hooked from start to finish.
Particular scenes that stole the show were Beautiful Girl, which was flawlessly sung and the Broadway Melody — where the dancing was as if from Broadway itself.
George Reynolds, who has worked with Inverness Musical Theatre since 1978, managed the stage set. Each detail was fantastically thought about. In particular, the classic Singin’ in the Rain and the moonlit backdrop of You Were Meant for Me.
From the choreography to the vocals to the band to the lighting, it truly was an immersive experience.
Mattias Kremer also stole the show with his comedic presence in the role of Cosmo.
If you are looking for an evening of outstanding musical theatre, you don’t need to go to the West End. You can get it at Eden Court with Inverness Musical Theatre.
Singin’ in the Rain is running each evening until Saturday, March 29.
If you miss that one, then look out for their next performance of Cole Porter’s Anything Goes in March 2026.
