Safety first as Croy pupils create posters for Inverness Airport train station
Three children from Croy Primary School won a rail safety poster competition for the new Inverness Airport railway station.
The station – which opened earlier this year – and Network Rail worked with nearby Croy Primary to share important rail safety messages.
Pupils were challenged to use their creativity to create posters with slogans which would influence people to use the railway and its stations in a safe and responsible way.
Allan Brooking, Network Rail’s community safety manager, said: “Getting people home safe every day is fundamental for everyone on Scotland’s Railway. With that in mind, it is important that children learn how to use the railway in a safe and responsible way from a young age.
“It was great to see so many pupils taking part in the competition and the winning designs clearly highlight the safety message that will certainly encourage passengers at Inverness Airport station to take care in and around the railway.”
Almost 40 children from the school entered the competition, which was judged by Community Rail Partnership group 6VT.
Emma Forsyth from P6, Alfie Robertson from P5 and Innes Groat from P6 – who took first prize – ran out as the winners.
After the prizegiving at the school, the winners were invited down to Inverness Airport station to see their posters on display – where they’ll remain until the New Year.
Sarah Harley, principal teacher at Croy Primary School, said: “The opening of the Inverness Airport railway station has been a great experience for our school and community. The children have been able to learn about rail safety and apply it to a station that is relevant to them. We are so proud of all three winners and the whole school for taking part.”
