Scottish Tories: 'Dualling the A9 is our first pledge'
Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross has said that completing the dualling of the A9 will be the 'first pledge' of the Scottish Conservatives UK election manifesto.
Speaking at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester, Highland MSP Ross hit out at the Scottish Government, saying that communities in the Highlands and North of Scotland "deserve better".
The Scottish Government conceded back in February that its promise to dual the A9 from Inverness to Perth by 2025 was now “unachievable”.
Mr Ross says that completing the infrastructure project will be his party's first promise ahead of the next general election.
He said: "The Scottish Conservatives will always back our drivers. That's why unlike the independence-obsessed SNP, the very first pledge in our 2024 manifesto will be to fully dual the A9 from Perth to Inverness and the A96 as soon as possible.
"Where the SNP have failed to deliver on its promises for the north of Scotland, our Scottish Conservatives guarantee will be cast-iron. No ifs, no buts.
"We will make dualling the A9 and A96 and upgrading other major roads our top infrastructure priority."
