Six will vie for votes in Inverness Central by-election in bid to win Highland Council seat
Six candidates are in the running to fill the vacant Inverness Central ward seat on Highland Council.
The by-election will be held on November 14 and follows the resignation of former councillor Richard Laird.
The candidates are:
- Russell Deacon – Scottish Green Party
- Mary Dormer – Scottish Liberal Democrats
- Ardalan Eghtedar – Scottish Labour Party
- Rachael Hatfield – Scottish Conservative and Unionist
- Richie Paxton – Independent
- Emma Roddick – Scottish National Party (SNP)
The count will take place on November 15 and the winner will join Inverness Central ward councillors Janet Campbell (Independent) and Bet McAllister (Scottish Labour Party)
A council spokeswoman said: "Anyone eligible to vote can vote in person on the day or apply for either a postal vote or to vote by proxy.
"The latest time to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on October 30 and the deadline for anyone wishing to apply to vote by proxy is November 6. Advice on postal and proxy voting is available by contacting the Electoral Registration Office on 0800 393783.
"Those intending to vote are reminded that the single transferable vote system will be used. Instead of using a cross, voters should number the candidates in the order of their choice, putting a number one in the box next to the name of the candidate who is their first choice, two in the box next to their second choice and so on. Voters can mark as many choices as they wish."
