Flights between Inverness and the Isle of Lewis were cancelled on Wednesday morning, Highlands and Islands Airports (Hial) has advised passengers

Inverness Airport was advising passengers that the 7am LM151 departure from Inverness Airport to Stornoway was cancelled, as well as the LM152 9am flight in the opposite direction. Both are run by the airline Loganair.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the cancellations, and later flights between the two airports on Wednesday afternoon at 3.15pm and 5.10pm were still scheduled to depart as normal as the time of writing.

But the morning cancellations come amid a wider warning of possible travel disruption after the Met Office issued weather warnings for heavy rain in parts of the Highlands and Islands.

The yellow warnings, the first of which runs until midnight tonight and the second from 3pm on Thursday to the end of Friday, have predicted a combined rainfall total of up to 150-200mm in the very worst hit spots, with 45-90mm more widely.
