An Inverness man is swapping his quiet life for the glitz and glamour of the dancefloor as he prepares to take part in Strictly Inverness 2025.

Niall Ross (29) is stepping well outside his comfort zone to raise vital funds for two local charities—Highland Hospice and Inverness Ice Centre.

Niall, who works as a Communications Assistant at Highland Hospice, admits that Strictly Inverness was never high on his list of fundraising challenges. In fact, he was first asked about taking part during his job interview three years ago but always managed to sidestep the suggestion—until now.

“Having worked at the Highland Hospice for three years now, Strictly was always at the bottom of the pile of events that I would do despite pretty much being asked at my interview,” he said.

However, with his 30th birthday approaching this summer, he decided it was time to take the plunge.

“I decided to bite the bullet this year as I wanted to do something significant before turning 30 in the summer and Strictly was the obvious choice.

“Make no mistake, this is not something that I am doing lightly, it’s not even close to being in my comfort zone, I hate being in the spotlight and I very much look forward to going back to the quiet life when it’s over.

“But at the end of the day, it’s all about raising money for two amazing charities. One of which I am privileged to work for and I’m able to see day in, day out the tremendous work that goes on at the Hospice.”

With weeks of intense rehearsals ahead, Niall is embracing the challenge, even if it means stepping onto the stage in front of a packed audience.

Strictly Inverness is a major annual fundraising event that supports the work of Highland Hospice and the upkeep of Inverness Ice Centre. Competitors undergo weeks of rigorous training before taking to the dancefloor in a dazzling live show.

In addition to his Strictly journey, Niall is also hosting a special fundraising event, the Dochfour Dash, on Wednesday, April 2, at the Caledonian Canal.

The event will feature a kids' 1.7-mile race and an adults' 5.2-mile race. Registration opens at 5:30 PM at the Inverness Harriers Clubhouse, with the race starting at 6:30 PM. This fun and active event is another great way to support Niall’s fundraising efforts while enjoying a scenic run.
