PICTURES: Inverness youngsters show how to keep cool in soaring temperatures over the weekend – by splashing in the River Ness

Soaring temperatures over the weekend prompted some to cool off by splashing around in the River Ness.

With mercury rising to 23C, play parks were particularly popular as people were keen to get out and about to enjoy the summery weather.

Although it was cloudier yesterday, temperatures were set to peak in late afternoon – after the Courier went to print – at 22C. They are forecast to be 19C or warmer for the rest of the week, with cloud cover but little chance of rain.

Ice cream, paddling and shorts will continue to be the order of the day.

As a backdrop to a hot sunny day, guitarist Rony Aristinho even brought a tune or two to those who were enjoying the weather in Whin Park at the weekend.

Visitor to the city, Gillian Bell, from Oban, said: “We decided to book a staycation to Inverness for the weekend with the children, and what a weekend we have had!

“It was overcast and miserable in Oban when we left and when we arrived in Inverness we could not believe it – it was like being in a foreign country.

“The kids absolutely loved Whin Park, there was so much to do, and we all had ice creams, played and relaxed.”
