World Tattie Scone Contest gets new home at Taste of Nairn food and drink festival
The first three-day food and drink festival Taste of Nairn has been given a mouth-watering boost by becoming the new home of the World Tattie Scone Contest.
Nairn will come alive between April 12-14 with numerous events including a food-related film screening in the Little Theatre, a picnic in the park, and a beer and banter night.
The contest for the best tattie scone will be on Saturday, April 13 in Nairn Community and Arts Centre. The championship has been hosted by Piping At Forres for the past six years, however Forres Events Ltd which organises the piping, and Oakwood Cookery School near Elgin which sponsors the tattie scone contest were delighted to offer it to Taste of Nairn in its debut year.
Elaine Sutherland of Oakwood Cookery School said: “It’s great to be working with Taste of Nairn and to ensure the World Tattie Scone Contest lives on for another year. Piping at Forres is now an event in its own right, so where better to run it than at a food and drink-related festival.”
The contest is for people wanting to put their culinary skills to the test or those just looking for a bit of fun.
The aim is to make a tattie scone using a set recipe with mashed potatoes and flour, plus the contestant’s own magic ingredient which they bring with them.
The most tasty and imaginative scone will be the winner.
In 2018 the winning scone included halloumi cheese, aubergine, lemon, honey and a thyme dressing.
Places are limited and all entries must be in by 5pm on April 8 when a draw will take place and the lucky entrants will be informed the following day.
Lee Jack, of the Sun Dancer restaurant, took the idea for Taste of Nairn to Nairn BID and they are now working with local businesses to make it a success.
