Partygoers gather for special tea dance at Trinity Church Hall, Inverness

CITY old folk recently enjoyed an afternoon of music and dance aimed at tackling social isolation.

Around 70 partygoers aged between 60 and 90 gathered at the Trinity Church Hall in Inverness for a special tea dance organised by STV reporter Nicola McAlley.

The event was just the latest in an initiative that has been running since 2017 to help elderly people get out and about and meet more of their peers.

Ms McAlley said: “It was a really good event with a great variety of entertainment and people really enjoyed themselves.”

“We are pleased we are still getting loyal people coming along, but we also had many new faces this time.

“Some of them were a bit hesitant at first, but we convinced them to come and join us and this is the point of what we do – getting people that normally wouldn’t come to a new place by themselves out.”

Among the organisations helping out on the day were Toe 2 Toe dance school, whose members performed, as well as volunteers from Cycling Without Age Inverness who also got guests out and about with trips along the banks of the Caledonian Canal.
