A bus driver was assaulted.

A teenager stormed on a bus without showing a ticket and when challenged by the bus driver, the 18-year-old spat twice in her face.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that McKenzie Cochrane, of Old Perth Road, Inverness then left the Stagecoach vehicle which had stopped in Falcon Square at about 10.20pm on June 8 last year.

The incident was reported to police and Cochrane was later arrested.

He admitted the assault.

Cochrane also pleaded guilty to abusive behaviour and assault outside Raigmore Hospital on the evening of August 13, 2023 when he made fun of a one-legged wheelchair user and flicked cigarette ash at him.

Sheriff Neil Wilson heard of a third incident on the night of February 13 this year when Cochrane and two females barged their way into the William Hill betting shop in Baron Taylor's Street as a member of staff was attempting to close.

Fiscal depute David Morton said they were all asked to leave but ignored the request and Cochrane threw some food at the employee and kicked him on the body before leaving.

He admitted this assault and was sentenced to a total of 165 hours of unpaid work plus a year's social work supervision.

But Sheriff Wilson warned him: "You appear to be responding to your current supervision, but I would be perfectly entitled to send you to jail today for spitting at a bus driver doing her job.

"But be very careful, if you don't do it."
