BIG-HEARTED staff from the Tesco Extra at Inverness Retail Park are hoping to bring some Christmas cheer to needy city folk.

They will be running a pop-up food bank in Falcon Square on Friday, December 4, from 9.30am until 4.30.

It is being run in conjunction with the Trussell Trust, a charity founded on Christian principles, that works with people regardless of religious belief or non-belief.

The Trust partners with churches, communities and other agencies to open new foodbanks nationwide. With over 420 foodbanks currently launched, its goal is for every town to have one.

Local Tesco community champion Liz Sutherland said: "The idea is to try and help those less fortunate than ourselves.

"People can visit us at the pop-up bank and donate any store cupboard food which we will then pass on to the local foodbank. People in Inverness have always been very generous and we’re sure we will get a good response."

And, Liz added that people can also make food donations in any of the Tesco stores in the city.
