The breakdown of a romance led a 28-year-old Inverness man to download over 2000 images of child abuse on his mobile phone, Inverness Sheriff Court heard.

Connor Goodall, of Warrand Road, was appearing for sentence after a background report and an assessment for a sex offenders’ rehabilitation programme had been prepared for Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald to consider.

Goodall's solicitor advocate Clare Russell told the court: "The reports are in positive terms. The backdrop to this offence is the breakdown of a long-term relationship."

The court had previously been told that police received intelligence and obtained a warrant to search Goodall's personal property.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that on March 11 last year, officers traced him to his work and subsequent analysis of his device revealed the obscene material.

Fiscal depute Emily Hood told Sheriff Macdonald that 498 photos of young females engaged in sexual activity with young males and adults in the most serious category were discovered.

She added that another 495 in the lesser category were also found and 1646 in the lowest category involving children in erotic posing were also on the phone. All were inaccessible and downloaded between November 13, 2023 and January 9, 2024.

Goodall was ordered to take part in the Moving Forward to Change programme and remain under social work supervision for two years. He was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a similar period.
