Inverness and Nairn MSP Fergus Ewing won’t stand for SNP; Culloden fly tipping and footballer tributes
Fergus Ewing won’t stand for SNP in 2026
Inverness and Nairn MSP Fergus Ewing will not stand for the SNP at next year’s Holyrood elections because he “simply cannot defend the record of the SNP government”.
“Good for him making this statement. The SNP are a disgrace and their lack of action over the dualling of the A9 and A96 is a travesty. Shame on them.” - Alison Savage
“Fergus Ewing is very much a man of integrity and he deserves much better treatment than he has had from his own party. I really hope he stands as an independent, he’s definitely the best possible candidate.” - Kim Corbett
“A rare politician that puts his constituents before his party.” - Matt Davies
“Everything he voted for and supported he is now anti. The only think he has in comon is Independence. He used to be a great MSP and his work on the A9 has been great. However he has been very much constantly throwing his toys out of the pram in press or FMQs. perhaps time to step away.” - Karen Shane
Fly tippers dump rubbish near battlefield
An investigation was launched after fly tippers dumped rubbish near Culloden Battlefield.
“Well if the council would accept everyone’s waste and not charge extra for a van etc this would not happen?” - Marianne Maclean
“Unreal how many try to make excuses for this. Inexcusable. But let's be honest we live in a beautiful country where a minority think nothing of throwing rubbish from their car. Time for far harsher punishment for litter and especially on this scale.” - David Jack
“There is absolutely no excuse for this - HOWEVER - the council should make it easier to dispose of it legally. You should be able to take this to a dump in any vehicle of your choosing, with no red tape. There is absolutely NO REASON this couldn’t happen.” - Mark Lawless
Ex-Inverness Thistle goalie dies aged 66
A former Highland League footballer who raised over $23,000 by completing a charity cycle while he was terminally ill, has died aged 66. Teammates led tributes to Gordon MacDonald, the former Inverness Thistle goalkeeper and sports all-rounder, after his passing in Australia.
“So sorry to read this sad news. I had the pleasure of playing football with Gordon and his brothers Jeff and Kevin in the 5th Boys Brigade when we were younger. A friendly guy with a great sense of humour. My condolences to all his family.” - Kenny Wright
