Disabled toilet in Whin Park in Inverness closed after it was damaged by vandals
A disabled toilet block in an Inverness park was closed this week after being hit by vandalism.
A notice saying it was closed was spotted on the door of the facility in Whin Park on Tuesday and the damage has been described as “significant”.
However, it is not known when the damage will be repaired as Highland Council currently has plans in place for the redevelopment of the Whin Park area.
A Highland Council spokeswoman said: “Highland Council works very hard to maintain and keep open as many public conveniences as possible and to retain or expand facilities in partnership with communities where possible.
“Sadly, as a result of significant damage to the disabled public convenience at Whin Park, the council has locked up the disabled facility and are not proposing to arrange a repair at this time as the site is due to be refurbished as part of the wider Whin Park refurbishment project.
“Vandalism, while not only criminal, is a total waste of taxpayers’ money and diverts resources from council works and services. It’s vital that our public toilets are safeguarded and no more are lost.
“If anyone witnesses vandalism please report the vandals to Police on 101 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
A regular park visitor said he was shocked by the damage and felt sorry for any families who might no longer go there due to this.
