National Records of Scotland confirm the top Scottish baby names of 2024 in Moray and Highlands
The top Scottish baby names for 2024 have been revealed.
Data collected by the National Records of Scotland confirmed that Noah was the most popular boys’ name and Olivia the most popular girls’ name across the country.
Noah overtook Luca regaining the top spot from 2022.
Olivia replaced Isla as the most popular girls' name for the seventh time since 2016.
However, the trend doesn’t necessarily reflect what is happening in the Highlands.
In Moray, Rosie was top for baby girls’ while Finn was the top choice for boy names.
Isla and Evie were also popular girls’ names while Harris, Jack and Theo were chosen for baby boys.
In the Highlands, it was Isla that took the top spot for girls’ names while Archie was the most chosen for boys.
Freya, Ella and Lily were also a popular pick for girls in the area while Angus, Finlay, Noah and Oliver were popular for boys’ names.

Across the whole of Scotland, one notable name trend was that among girls, Eliza rose 118 places to 79th, Romy 89 places to 63rd, and Nora 80 places to 72nd.
For boys, Reggie climbed 57 places to 91st, Myles 41 places to 35th, and Callan 36 places to 36th.
Olivia and Noah were the top names for mothers under 25, while Finn and Emily were most popular among mothers 35 and older.
It is thought that the Disney film Luca likely influenced the name's surge in 2023, though it fell to sixth in 2024.
The Good Dinosaur may have boosted the name Arlo, which is now in the top 20.
The rise in the number of baby girls named Clara may be linked to Doctor Who, while Violet’s popularity could stem from A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Ezra entered the top 100, possibly due to George Ezra’s success and the Star Wars: Ahsoka series.
Robbie returned to the top 100, potentially due to the Better Man film.
Reggie saw a 78% increase, possibly due to the documentary Reggie about baseball star Reggie Jackson.
