VETERAN sports broadcaster Archie McPherson has been signed up for a special appearance in Nairn later this month.

He will give a talk at the Nairn Dunbar Golf Club in aid of Nairn County’s ground improvement fund on August 27.

The event promises an illuminating insight into the personalities of Scottish football and games he has covered both at club, European and international level around the world and will be followed by a Q&A.

Fundraiser Donald Wilson said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for football fans regardless of who you support to hear one of the most knowledgeable figures in Scottish football broadcasting.

“I understand Archie visited Station Park last season and we are very grateful to him for fitting this into his busy schedule – and Ali Asher for setting it up.

“The Ground Improvement Fund has reach £7000 in a short space of time and with this event, two curry quiz nights on September 20 and 21 and a Ladies Prosecco Day on October 28 we will soon be over £10k.

“We’d love to thank I thank Ali Asher of Ashers Bakery for setting this up and Nairn Dunbar Golf Club for accommodating the event at such short notice.

“If you have any of Archie’s books bring them along and he will be delighted to sign them.”

Entry to Mr McPherson’s talk will be £10 at the door on the day of the event.

A collection box and raffle for people wanting to contribute further to the grounds fundraiser will also be available on the day.
