Inverness health visitor Kay-Lisa is Highland Hospice hero as she wins Ness Factor 2024

Kay-Lisa Davidson has won the annual charity Ness Factor singing competition in Inverness.

The 49-year-old health visitor, who lives in Inverness but is originally from Shetland, received a standing ovation at the Drumossie Hotel for her performance of Holding out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler.

It was a fitting song choice as she also earned the most inspirational fundraiser award for generating more than £10,000 for Highland Hospice, which organises the contest.

She has also won the opportunity to perform at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival 2025.

She was among the nine acts - 12 singers, including three duets - who raised more than £90,000 overall for the cause.

The event is the hospice's version of The X Factor - and attracted an audience of around 300 people.

She was cheered on by family and friends, with a stunning display, which followed a similar victory for her daughter Heather in the Stars in their Eyes charity singing contest in aid of Special Needs Action Project (SNAP) in March.

Prior to the event, Kay-Lisa explained her reason for taking part was that “first and foremost the hospice is a fantastic charity. I have not had first-hand experience of the hospice myself, but I do know many people who have, I only ever hear praise.

“I feel very privileged and shocked to have been selected. I would never have done something like this until very recently but I have been inspired by a few life events and people recently and I just thought... go for it! What have I actually got to lose?

“So I quickly applied and submitted before I could change my mind, although I'm already very nervous and want to be good enough to perform on the night and be part of something that provides a great night's entertainment.”
