A local councillor wants to make sure “lessons are learned” after Travellers apparently forcibly entered an Inverness park before leaving “a trail of damage” when they moved on.

We reported last week how regular parkrun events at Torvean Park for both adults and juniors were cancelled on at the weekend after Travellers sent up camp in the grounds.

They have moved on but Inverness South councillor Duncan Macpherson says they have “left a trail of damage and debris to be replaced, repaired and cleaned up”.

And he added: “I have urged the Highland Council to take immediate action to clean up the site and restore the damage and ensure lessons are learned and a repeat occurrence is prevented from happening again.”

Highland Council has been approached for comment about plans to restore the site and any measures that might be taken to make it harder for vehicles to gain access in the future.
