TV viewers in parts of Inverness were left without access to dozens of channels this morning after a fault at a local transmitter.

The BBC's website reported that a fault at the transmitter at its BBC Scotland site on Mayfield Road, had taken two channel 'multiplexes' off the air.

"The transmitter has reported issues at the moment which is affecting some viewers," said a statement on the BBC's transmitter fault check web page. The number of viewers affected was not given.

The website added that the BBC A and BBC B HD 'multiplexes' were off the air from 9.35am this morning "due to essential engineering".

The BBC A multiplex – which sits in digital frequency 29 – includes the likes of BBC 1, BBC 2, BBC Alba and the BBC News channel, among others.

The BBC B HD multiplex – which operates in frequency 37 – includes BBC 1 Scotland HD, BBC 2 Scotland HD and CBBC HD.

A number of other broadcasters were also being affected, including STV and Channel 4, although some Freeview broadcasters' channels were continuing to air – including Pick, Dave and Quest, among others.
