A SERIES of challenges at an Inverness gym helped to raise £2780 in memory of a researcher who died from the cancer she was studying.

The fundraiser at CrossFit 57North in Carsegate Road was held in tribute to Dr Sharon Hutchison who died in December, aged 39, just one year after being diagnosed with melanoma.

She had been researching the disease at the University of Highlands and Islands division of biomedical sciences in Inverness.

Friends and colleagues have launched a series of activities to raise funds for Highland Hospice where she spent her final weeks and are also raising public awareness of the disease.

Dr Hutchison, of Wester Inshes, was a member of CrossFit 57North.

Her friend Louise Harper said: “Thank you doesn’t seem enough but words can’t describe how overwhelmed I am by the generosity shown at our fundraising event for Sharon.

“I’d also like to thank those who spoke such kind words and who have shown so much love for an amazing lady who really has left a void in not only my life but so many others.

“The Highland Hospice is an invaluable facility in our local area and I can’t emphasise how much support and care it provides.”
