Recent outbreaks of the virus in the town prompted the decision by organisers Nairn Road Runners to halt the event, traditionally held on Boxing Day.

The 5km race involves runners trying to log their finishing times in advance and running the course from the Maggot track to the harbour and up the River Nairn to Firhall Bridge and back.

In a statement the Road Runners said: “As a committee, we are sad to do this again, hopefully see you next year.”

The event normally has around 200 participants.
