Twins who are pregnant at the same time for the second time believe it has brought their family back together following the death of their younger brother.

Lochend sisters Samantha and Kirsti Foster (29), who already have toddlers born only weeks apart, are again expecting babies within just weeks of each other.

The twins say their brother Samuel, who died in a car accident in February last year aged just 18, will be looking down on them and laughing at their predicament.

“Last year was the hardest for us as a whole family that we have ever gone through,” said Samantha, who is a nurse at Raigmore Hospital.

“My brother Samuel was in a car accident. He crashed into a deer on the A82 and lost his life, and none of us could come to terms with it.

“As a family it was very difficult to cope with. It broke us apart but the pregnancies have brought us back together.

“Being pregnant has given the whole family something to look forward to, but especially my mum Heather.

“Samuel found it really funny that we were pregnant at the same time last time, so we think that he would find it even funnier this time. He was the baby of the family, and we all adored him.

“He knew that Kirsti would not have wanted to have another baby quite so soon, so he will be finding it very funny.”

The sisters and their two-year-olds Reuben and Georgie have really missed each other during the lockdown, but have stayed in touch via video calls.

Samantha, who has been with partner George Wilson for eight years, said: “After the last time when we were pregnant at the same time, we thought it could never happen again.

“We had not planned for this and we didn’t talk about it beforehand. It is just a complete fluke.”

Samantha’s baby is due later this month and Kirsti is due to give birth three weeks later.

She said: “I wanted to have another baby, and I was delighted when I found out I was pregnant but my sister Kirsti was not planning on another baby, so it was a bit of a shock.”

Younger sister by 14 minutes, Kirsti, a nursing auxiliary at Raigmore Hospital, admitted: “It was quite a shock when I fell pregnant. I was just finding my feet after having Georgie and I definitely wasn’t planning on having another one.

“When I found out I was pregnant it was a very, very much a surprise. We joke that our brother must have had something to do with it.”

Kirsti, who has been with her partner George Laurie for 10 years, added: “With Covid-19, we have both been off our work at the hospital because we are pregnant. It has been quite difficult not being able to see each other.

“The children are best friends, more like brother and sister, and they have found it really hard at times when they cannot play with each other. We used to do a lot of coffee dates and it will be great to get back to doing that again.”
