Underwater photographer set to host informative talk at Inverness Royal Academy

An underwater photographer is set to host an informative talk at Inverness Royal Academy on February 10.

In his youth, Lawson Wood spent his time exploring rock pools, collecting shells on the beach and snorkelling along the coast.

Six decades later, he has spent a lifetime immersed in the world’s oceans, dedicating himself to marine conservation and capturing the beauty of underwater life through his lens.

Now, in his talks for the Royal Scottish Geographical Society’s (RSGS), Lawson will recount stories from 60 years spent underwater and showcase his images from across the globe.

Ahead of his talks, Lawson commented: “I feel honoured and humbled to be invited to share my experiences for the RSGS Inspiring People talks programme, having spent much of my life in marine conservation, underwater photography, and authoring over 50 books on the subject on many areas of the world.”

Lawson is co-founder of the Berwickshire Marine Reserve, and the Marine Conservation Society. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and the British Institute of Professional Photographers for his underwater photography.

RSGS chief executive Mike Robinson commented “Lawson’s stunning images throw a light onto the beauty of the underwater environment which remains so alien and other worldly to so many of us. His stories and experiences will reveal so much about life below the waves, all backed up by a lifetime of photography. It promises to be a rare treat.”

The talk in Inverness begins at 7.30pm on February at 10 Inverness Royal Academy.
