The body of a man has been found in the Cairngorms after a search for a lone skier who had been reported missing.

Police say the family of 40-year-old Sam Burns, who disappeared in the Cairngorm mountains yesterday, have been informed, with formal identification still to take place.

Mr Burns had last been in contact with friends around 11.30am on Friday when he was skiing alone in the mountains.

Concerns were raised when he did not return to his van parked within the Cairngorm Mountain car park.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 11am on Saturday, December 14, 2024, the body of a man was found in the Cairngorms.

“Formal identification is yet to take place, but the family of 40-year-old missing man Sam Burns has been informed.

“There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
