Renee MacRae and Andrew murder detectives confirm potential A9 evidence found near Inverness
Murder detectives hunting for the bodies of Renee and Andrew MacRae have confirmed they are examining possible evidence found by the A9.
Earlier today, we broke the news that a child’s potty and length of carpet were removed from a site around a mile south of Dalmagarry lay-by.
Road workers employed by Balfour Beatty in the dualling of the Inverness-Perth route between Tomatin and Moy made the discovery as they excavated and cleared the site of trees and thick undergrowth.
Police say the find was made on Thursday, March 13.
Prior to the discovery, workers had been given a list of items to look out for while working close to where Renee (39) and her son (3) are believed to have been murdered by her lover William MacDowell.
The list supplied by Police Scotland included items such as a suitcase, pushchair, coat and a yellow child’s potty.
A source close to Balfour Beatty said a yellow-based potty was unearthed a few days later, along with a roll of carpet, which was also removed by police.
Police Scotland refused to elaborate on what was found, whether the find was yet known to be significant or what instructions they gave contractors Balfour Beatty.
It is not known whether forensic examination of the site or further excavation is planned.
A police spokeswoman would only say: “On Thursday, 13 March, 2025, officers attended the A9 near Dalmagarry after an item was recovered. The item is being examined and further enquiries are ongoing.”
