A large police response in an Inverness neighbourhood is due to an "ongoing concern for person incident", the force has said.

Numerous police vehicles and officers flocked to Smithton on Monday afternoon, sparking a whirl of comments and photos on social media as a cordon was erected.

Part of Smithton Park was closed off by police and numerous onlookers were kept back behind the tape.

The force issued a brief note at 3.09pm to confirm that they were responding to an "ongoing concern for person incident within a flat".
