USA dream awaits talented cheerleaders
SIX athletes from a local cheer and dance club will represent their country in America next year.
Cheerleaders from Campbell Cheer and Dance have been specially selected to represent Team Scotland at the ICU World Cheer leading Championships in Orlando in the spring.
The girls stepping up to the challenge are Hannah Riddoch (14), Lily Cameron (15), Briagh McMaster (19), Sophie Mapplebeck (12), Hollie Worthing (12), Marianna MacLean (14).
Coach Dianne Campbell said: "I have been coaching some of the girls since they were three-years-old. It is amazing to see all their hard work pay off and to see their dreams come true.
"The whole club is incredibly proud of them and we are all there to support them every step of the way.
"It is such an amazing opportunity and all I want for them is to enjoy the experience and to do themselves proud."
To qualify for the competition next year the girls auditioned in Glasgow in August this year where they were successful in impressing a panel of five judges. They had to prepare a one minute routine showcasing their most advanced skills. They also had to perform a set routine that was taught to them on the day.
Some 120 athletes from across Scotland will be competing at the ICU, where eight different types of cheerleading categories will feature Scottish representation.
Hollie Worthing and Sophie Mapplebeck qualified for Junior Pom. Briagh McMaster, Hannah Riddoch, Mariana MacLean and Lily Cameron qualified for Senior Jazz.
The girls will be competing against cheerleading teams from all over the world against teams like Mexico, Japan and Russia.
The girls entering the competition next year will need to raise £1500 each ahead of the competition.
They will also be training in Glasgow each week and need funds for travel, accommodation expenses and for the trip itself.
To support the girls in their fundraising efforts ahead of the competition next year, donations can be made by contacting the club’s website at www.campbellcheer.co.uk
Coach Dianne Campbell said training is already underway for the competition, which runs from April 24 to 29.
