Vandalism caused £100k of damage to Inverness e-bike scheme

A popular e-bike scheme which was suspended last week after a streak in damages took most of its fleet out of action said damages amount to around £100,000.

Last week the Hi-Bike Inverness scheme had to be temporarily suspended, after a week of continuous vandalisation of the bikes left only six bikes out of 56 available to use.

Now Hitrans, the organisation running the scheme, said they are calling for any information in connection with the acts of vandalism, sayidng that they are working with both Police Scotland and British Transport Police and that CCTV footage is available at charging docks.

In a message on social media, they shared: “We have spoken to Police Scotland again today to provide information regarding the acts of vandalism that have caused damage of approximately £100,000 to the HI-BIKES in Inverness. CCTV footage is available at the charging docks, and we hope this will allow the Police to identify those responsible.

“We hope to have the HI Bike scheme operational again as soon as the bikes and docks are repaired and we can have confidence that this valuable asset will be allowed to operate safely as it has done in Inverness since October 2021.

“We apologise to all our members whose access to the system has been disrupted by those who cannot abide by the law.”
