Vandalism to an Inverness building that is over 150 years old has been described as ‘disappointing’.

Inverness Cathedral was graffitied last night with images and the tag ‘HMC’.

The main entrance to the building, alongside the new XOKO tea room and the pavement were all marked.

Provost of Inverness Cathedral, Very Revd Sarah Murray said: ‘Vandalism and damage to any building is disappointing and it is sad to see graffiti on our cathedral buildings and the tearoom building today.

“It is an exciting time as the partnership with XOKO develops and grows and time and energy dealing with issues such as vandalism takes away from the work we both do in and for the community.

“I’d like to question how we’ve come to a time and place that in order to find self worth it is necessary to damage and deface property. We do hope that we won’t be facing something similar in the future.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.35am on Wednesday, April 30, we received a report of vandalism to a building in the Ardross Street area of Inverness.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
