Vandals target another Highland Hospice squirrel in Inverness
VANDALS have damaged another Highland Hospice squirrel sculpture – to the extent that it has been taken away for repairs.
A cordon is in place around the platform for the 5ft tall multi-coloured Highland Coo Squirrel in Inverness's Church Street and witnesses of the damage are being sought.
The sculpture – which is one of 23 which make up the Go Nuts Art Trail for the hospice – was targeted overnight.
It comes around a week after a similar sculpture was vandalised in the city's Whin Park.
Inverness Business Improvement District (BID), which sponsors the Highland Coo Squirrel, shared pictures of the damage on Facebook along with an appeal for witnesses.
It stated: "Unfortunately the BID squirrel located at the top of Church Street was vandalised last night.
"Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with any information is asked to either call police on 101, Crimestoppers on 0800 555112 or message us direct.
"The 5ft sculpture is part of the Go Nuts Art Trail raising money for Highland Hospice."
A spokesman for the trail stated: "Our much-loved Highland Coo Squirrel, has been taken away for some repairs today after being damaged overnight.
"Thank you to everyone who got in touch and kept him safe for us until he could be collected.
"He will be back in his usual place, opposite the town house tomorrow evening."
The trail was launched two weeks ago.
In September, once the trail is over, the squirrels will be gathered for a farewell display before being sold at a hospice charity auction in November.
