DEMANDS are being made for more police patrols at Inverness Castle after offensive graffiti was sprayed on its walls.

The drawings and words were daubed on the outside of the castle’s North Tower.

A floodlight cover next to the tower has also been targeted with spray paint.

Inverness Central councillor Donnie Kerr has reported the vandalism to council officials, hoping it will be cleaned soon.

“It is disappointing to see graffiti on a rather nice building,” he said.

“The police could do with taking a wander around the castle grounds every now and again.

“With the main building used as Inverness Sheriff Court, there tends to be a lot of people hanging about outside consuming alcohol and making a pest of themselves so I’d like to see more police activity in the area.

“But I accept it is an awkward place to police and it is difficult to tell when this is happening.”

A spokeswoman for Northern Constabulary said monitoring buildings, including the castle, formed part of patrol officers’ duties.

Highland Council promised to remove the graffiti.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to contact their local police.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
