WATCH: CannonBawz off to a great start with message from racing legend Sir Jackie Stewart and appearance from Star Wars characters ahead of NC500 charity run
THE charity car rally CannonBawz Run is off and running after a sunshine launch in the centre of Elgin today (Saturday).
The CannonBawz Run was founded in 2015 by Kris O'Neill, whose brother Liam had Marfan, a rare condition which affects the connective tissue around the body.
More than 40 vehicles set off from Elgin High Street today in memory of Liam, who died last year, to navigate the NC500 over two days before finishing up in Inverness.
The event, which has raised over £40,000 for worthy causes, has received special recognition from celebrities such as Sir Jackie Stewart as well as Dame Judi Dench.
Kris says that Liam's legacy will live on with the rally.
This year, cosplayers portraying characters from the Star Wars, DC and Marvel universes were in the town centre as the cars were readied to head off, as well as the Delorean made famous in Back to the Future.
Liam was a massive Star Wars fan.
Drivers will stop overnight in Ullapool where a charity auction will be held. Included in the list of items up for sale are a pair of gloves from Formula One driver Pierre Gasly, Dario Franchitti's race boots, bottles of whisky signed by Sir Jackie Stewart as well as various other items.
All funds raised this year will be split evenly between the Marfan Trust, Race Against Dementia and Rock2Recovery.
A large crowd gathered to view some of the amazing cars before they headed off in groups of 10 for the first leg of the journey.
