IT was a great day for the Inverness skating community as more than 50 people gathered at Inshes Skatepark for a brand new event.

With participants as young as two-years-old, the first Inverness Skate Jam brought together newbies and enthusiasts for a day of demonstrations of jumps and tricks at the new park as well as some fun competitions.

Taran Campbell of Inverness Wheeled Sports Club – who organised the event – said: "It was a load of fun, everyone enjoyed themselves.

"We got a good turnout of skateboarders of al ages and abilities.

"It was pretty casual as far as competitions were concerned, we wanted to keep it all fun – so we had the best trick over the drop or the longest grind and best combination of tricks and then a combination of challenges and hippy jumps.

With a Trick for Treat fun challenge on, a good amount of candies was given out to skaters of all ages throughout the day.

The wheeled sport facility at Inshes opened in March this year.

Mr Campbell added: "We have a massive community of skateboarders here in Inverness

"Our main goal is raise awareness on our mission which is to build more skate parks and primarily an indoor skateboard facility in Inverness.

"Events like these go a long way in showing the support for the cause and we will be very active in the next few days to show more footage and pictures on our social channels."
