WATCH: Inside the factory at Inverness’ Cairngorm Group

Highland glass company, Cairngorm Group has been manufacturing windows for over 70 years now, and have become a trusted part of the community, so we have taken a look inside the factory to see how the magic happens.

Founded in 1953, Inverness Glass Company is now proudly in its fourth generation under the Dowling family. Starting in a humble shed on Duff Street, former managing director Alasdair Dowling often joked that the only running water came from condensation, and water for the kettle came from the River Ness.

The company relocated to Wells Street in the 1960s, enabling continued growth and diversification. From its original focus on single glazing and car windscreens, Inverness Glass began offering double glazing in 1978 from its Waterloo site, now Cairn Housing. In 1988, a new factory on Lotland Street further expanded window production, and by 2000, all operations united at a modern facility on Longman Drive, inaugurated by Scotland's former football manager Craig Brown.

Since then, the company—rebranded as Cairngorm Group—has expanded into PV solar panels and kitchen design. Today, it operates not only from Longman Drive but also from branches in Elgin (Grampian Glass) and Thurso.

Cairngorm Group continues to evolve with technology, as we saw in their workshop, and continues to put the Highland community at the forefront of their mission to sustain an environmentally friendly production, while keeping their promise to make weather resistant windows.
