An Inverness group is celebrating over 25 years together.

The ‘Mature Movers’ who meet at Culcabock and Drakies Hall in Grebe Avenue each week say it is a place of ‘community and friendship’.

They take part in a 45-minute workout session — which although is accessible, it certainly packs a punch!

Having started in 1999, it originally involved an exercise session followed by tea and sandwiches, with members taking turns to host.

However, since lockdown it is now just fun, fitness and friendly blether.

Doreen Godsman said: “I’ve been coming for a year and a half and it’s a really good class with lovely people.

“You get exercise and the instructor is very good. She’s really funny.

“I live alone so it’s a social activity and a nice and happy class. You also just do what you can so there is no pressure.”

Dawn Watt added: “I’ve been coming for six years, and we have lots of fun and there is no judgement.”

The class is led by instructor Val Rose, who used to bring her baby to the class in the early days.

Over the years, she has enthused the group many times.

Other fondly remembered fitness instructors include Bill, Midge and Vicky.

The club recently enjoyed a meal out at Fairways to celebrate their time together over the years.

“I’ve been coming for 10 years and it is the friendliest group of people,” said Jane Baird.

“It’s a great community and we’ve all become friends. We get a lot of laughs!”

Katriona Mackenzie added: They’re all very friendly. I became a widow 32 weeks ago and it’s nice to have this community.”

Ann Johnston, club treasurer said: “The club may no longer have talks from the fire brigade, police or first aiders; no longer have outings to Nairn, Calder Castle, Falls of Shin, and Perth races; but we do enjoy fitness, fun and friendship.”
