WATCH: Inverness voted among best family-friendly holiday destinations in UK
In the midst of the summer holidays, outdoor experts at Go Outdoors has named Inverness the eighth top family-friendly holiday destination in the UK, as well as the best and only location in Scotland in the top 10.
Looking at factors such as the number of family friendly holidays, restaurants and the cost of a family hotel room, the firm rated and ranked the top destinations in the UK.
Inverness received top spot when it came down to the number of Google searches for staycations. From April 2023 to March 2024, researchers found that holiday hunters had searched for a vacation in Inverness 222,500 times.
When asking those visiting Inverness for the first time about their first impressions of the ‘family-friendly’ city, one couple from the Netherlands said: “It’s smaller than I thought it was and I don’t think there’s much for kids to do around here.
“I think there could be more playgrounds or something like that.”
Another lady added: “I think there could be more things for kids to do inside the city centre of Inverness, or better sign posting for visitors.”
While one family from the United States said: “From what little we have seen, there is a variety of things to do and restaurants for visitors to get a taste of the local flavour here which I think is very nice.
“If I were to improve something, it would be the parking. We have larger and closer parking units in America, whereas here it has been something we have had to look for and figure out.”
