Lara's Halloween retreat is back for the 17th year running.

Each year Inverness mum Lara Jayne McMillan sets up fang-tastic displays at her family home in Castle Heather Crescent to celebrate the ghostly night.

While some among us close the curtains and turn out the lights to avoid guisers, Lara (40) throws open her front and back gardens for several evenings to children and their folks, ably assisted by son Aden (16) and daughters Alyssa (19) and Layla (14).

Sole parent Lara has created her Halloween House consecutively for 17 years following a tradition started by her mother Jennie Young when they stayed in Kinmylies.

She said: "My mum was my inspiration for starting this. Now I do this for the kids as seeing their excitement is amazing.

"There's a lot of kids that don't have a lot, and sometimes all they need is a little bit of magic in their lives."

It's fair to say that these Halloween super-fans are in love with the 'scope of imagination' that comes with this spooky season.

Lara said: "There's no rules with Halloween, and every year we try to make the display a little different. Like, we have built a maze in our back garden!

"People's reactions always make it worth while as they never know what to expect.

"Each year we somehow seem to make it bigger and better!"

The McMillans, who have four pet cats, are also accepting donations for the Inverness Cat Rescue charity which has helped them in the past.

In addition to the Cat Rescue, the family are raising money for Mikeysline as it has recently become a charity close to Aden's heart.

The Halloween House opens tonight until Halloween from 5.30pm-9pm. The front garden caters for younger children, whilst the back is for those who dare to enter.
