Deacon Blue are returning to Belladrum with one thing in mind.

“We’re planning on giving people the best night of their lives,” revealed lead singer Ricky Ross.

Formed in 1985 in Glasgow, the rock band's core members include Ricky, Lorraine McIntosh (vocals), James Prime (keyboards) and Dougie Vipond (drums).

They are set to deliver some of the most memorable singalong moments of the weekend, drawing from their extensive back catalogue of hits, which includes classics such as Real Gone Kid, Fergus Sings the Blues and Chocolate Girl.

But when asked what to expect, Ricky said: “Not sure what we will be playing.

“It will be Deacon Blue’s only show in Scotland this year. It’s also a show in the Highlands, where we don’t often get to visit as a band. So, we’re looking forward to it hugely.”

Deacon Blue will be making a highly anticipated return to the music festival after their last headlining performance in 2011. The popular band last performed in Inverness in December 2021.

Looking back, Ricky said: “It’s been a while, but I hope we made some memories for the audience!”

In a stacked line-up for the 20th anniversary of the event, we wondered if the band might have time to catch any other performances and it seems they might be looking out for one singer-songwriter in particular.

“It’s difficult to see other bands from backstage at festivals,” Ricky said. “However…is Jake Bugg playing on the day we’re playing?”

Jake is playing the Garden Stage on Friday, while Deacon Blue play the Hot House on Saturday, so who knows, there may be a famous face or two among the crowd.

Deacon Blue play the Hot House Stage on Saturday at 9.40pm.
