WEEKLY COURT ROUND-UP: Inquiry into Inverness prisoner’s death, man found dealing cocaine and assault on city bar worker





It was another busy week for Inverness Sheriff Court with a number of cases covered by the Inverness Courier.

A court process is set to start as part of a Fatal Accident Inquiry (FAI) into the death of a man at Inverness prison, it has been announced.

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) has lodged a First Notice to begin the court process for a Fatal Accident Inquiry into the death of 48-year-old Gary Wallace.

A Preliminary Hearing will be held on 8 May 2025 at Inverness Sheriff Court.

A drink-driver was reported to police after he was seen leaving a supermarket car park in Culloden in the late afternoon.

James Begg (49), of Kenneth Street, Inverness was tracked down by officers at his home on September 15 last year where he gave a positive breath test and returned a reading of 79mcgs of alcohol when the limit is 22mcgs.

A surveillance operation led police to search an Inverness man who was found dealing cocaine.

Stephen Murray (63) was found to have several wraps of cocaine in his pockets when walking through a car park at Tesco on Inverness’s Eastfield Way.

A motorist caused an Inverness cyclist to fly over their handlebars and fracture their elbow.

Andrew Pearson (45) was driving along the city’s Drummond Road at around 4.15pm on August 12 last year when he encountered the cyclist.

A woman put her hands around the neck of a bar worker and attempted to bite a police officer at a city pub.

Shelley Hendry (45) was at The Kings Highway in Church Street, Inverness when she was asked to leave by two staff, but she kicked off on April 25 last year.
