WEEKLY COURT ROUND-UP: Man almost lost life in motorcycle crash, jail for paedophile and man assaulted partner and her mother

It was another busy week for Inverness Sheriff Court with a number of cases covered by the Inverness Courier.

Here are a few to hit the headlines:

Inverness man punched partner’s jaw and spat at her mum

A woman and her mother were assaulted by her partner after they met at an Inverness supermarket and he was offered a lift home.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that on the journey, 42-year-old Steve Potter, designated as an Inverness prisoner, made derogatory comments towards them and she stopped in Kessock Road to ask him to leave her car or she would phone the police.

Inverness drinker still recovering after motorcycle crash led to 4 months in hospital

A few drinks before taking a repaired motorcycle out for a test run almost cost a Latvian man his life when he was involved in a serious crash in the Carse industrial estate and spent four months in hospital.

While 44-year-old machine operator Janis Erdmanis, of Kessock Avenue, Inverness was being treated police obtained blood samples from him and it showed that he had 126mgs of alcohol when the legal limit is 50mgs.

Inverness court car park police could smell drugs when at teen’s vehicle

A teenager who donated his bone marrow for a stem cell transplant to save a life was caught by police in charge of his vehicle while under the influence of cannabis.

Mechanical engineering student Rory Stainsby (18), of Nairnside, near Inverness was found in the Inverness Justice Centre car park at about 9pm on the night of April 1 last year.

Inverness Sheriff Court orders man to stay away from ‘love of his life’

A 22-year-old Inverness man who threatened to kill "the love of his life" and burn her mother's house down has avoided a jail sentence and ordered to stay away from the woman for seven-and-a-half years.

But Scott Smith, who was described as an Inverness prisoner, got a stern warning from Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald when he appeared before her for sentence that he would "go straight back to jail if there is one slip-up in this community-based disposal".

Nairn paedophile had images and videos of children as young as five

A man from Nairn who possessed and distributed indecent photos of children has been jailed for 18 months.

Frances Ward (51) of the town’s Gordon Street was found guilty at Inverness Sheriff Court and sentenced on Thursday, April 3.
