The triumphant launch of this year’s Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival has set the scene for a full-strength offering.

More than 500 events are featured in the Spirit of Speyside Festival programme, launched at the Speyside Cooperage.

The festival, which returns after being cancelled in 2020 and ran virtually in 2021, will thrill local and international devotees and first-timers alike.

George McNeil, chairman of the festival, which will run from April 27 to May 2, said: “I hope to see people from far and wide joining us to celebrate the world’s largest producing whisky region, from whisky novices, budding master blenders and everyone in between.”

Distilleries which have had their doors closed to visitors since the beginning of the pandemic will be giving people a rare glimpse during the festival.

These will include normally off-limits sites at Roseisle, Linkwood, Dufftown, Mortlach, Tamdhu and Tamnavulin.

Glen Moray fans will also have a unique chance to sample the Elgin whisky under the stars at Elgin Cathedral, accompanied by atmospheric readings by Historic Scotland staff.

VisitScotland events director, Paul Bush, said: “Uniquely Scottish events such as this can only serve to further strengthen the country’s reputation as a world-leading events destination.”
