Stratherrick and Foyers community’s Winter wonderland event raises more than £1000
A covering of snow made the recent Winter wonderland event really special for the crowds attending as well as the volunteers in fancy dress according to the organisers.
Stratherrick and Foyers community’s Winter wonderland celebration was held just before Christmas and was a resounding success.
More than 400 visitors came to see a spectacular light show, visit the Christmas market and enjoy some seasonal cheer.
Santa Claus even paid a visit and there was a gift for each and every child in the community.
A number of local community groups were involved, including both local primary schools and the volunteer firefighters, and more than £1000 was raised to support these groups.
Jillian Barclay, who helped organise the event, said: "This year’s event was the best yet, and we were even lucky to get some snow to make it even more magical.
"It was great to have the schools involved this year, and the children opened both days with a spot of carol singing to get us all into the festive spirit.
"The schools both had craft tables selling items that the pupils had made over the previous weeks – we definitely have some talented children in our community."
Caroline Tucker, the event co-ordinator said: "What a fantastic community event this was. Not only were we able to support some of our community groups in their fundraising efforts, but we involved local businesses too through the Christmas market, and our very own Calum Martin and his team put up the lights for the light show.
"We had an amazing team of volunteers and elves who helped set up, serve hot drinks, and clear up afterwards – the event truly would not have been the success it was without such support from the whole community."
