Badenoch upgrade to A9 must wait until the weekend for a temperature rise

Temperatures have plummeted this week on the A9.
Temperatures have plummeted this week on the A9.

The low temperatures have halted works on the A9 at Drumochter for this week.

Works will wait until Sunday (14) and resume if conditions allow.

Single carriageway improvements started south of Drumochter on Sunday, November 10 with night time temporary traffic lights and a covoy system

BEAR Scotland, working on behalf of Transport Scotland, is upgrading the surface between the Dalnamein Junction and the southern end of the Drumochter duals in two phases.

Phase one involves the A9 north of Dalnamein junction and is scheduled to be completed by 6am on Monday, December 2.

Phase two focuses on the south of Drumochter Duals with all works due to be completed by 6am on the morning of Saturday, December 21.

To ensure the safety of both workers and road users, temporary traffic lights will be in place during working hours, 7pm to 6am, with a convoy system to escort traffic through the work site safely. All traffic management will be removed outwith working hours.

“Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times,” said Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s north west representative.

“This crucial surfacing project will fix existing defects and significantly enhance the driving experience for all road users.

“Our teams are committed to executing these works quickly and with safety as our top priority. We thank the local community and road users for their patience while we complete the improvements.

“To minimise delays, we recommend that road users plan their journeys in advance by consulting the Traffic Scotland website for real-time travel updates.”

Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.traffic.gov.scot, X @trafficscotland or on the mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.
